Who We Are?

 

MicroVenture Support, Inc, a nonprofit corporation in association with
Microcredit Summit Campaign and Microfinance Focus Magazine of
Bangalore, India presents The Great End-of-Poverty Drum Circle, the
inaugural global media-based fundraising event. This will become
an annual event, scheduled for the opening day of The Global Micro
Credit Summit.

-WHY IS THIS NECESSARY?

Microfinance has become a commercially accepted and maturing market.
Niche markets continue to develop, all providing a level of financial services
to the poor. A rather spirited debate has arisen between those who believe
that making loans available to the poor at virtually any interest rate is worthy
of praise. On the other side of the argument are those who believe that the
lending of money indiscriminately to the poor can, and often does, cause more
problems than it solves and that to be effective funds need to be applied to
sustainable investments

An emergent methodology called: microUP provides a holistic solution to
the current rush to micro banking. It is our belief that the only way to assure
progress out of poverty is to provide access to a sustainable livelihood for
those who presently have none and to do this through education, mentoring,
support networks and access to productive credit. Therefore we have created
this event to accomplish two goals:

1. Raise global awareness
2. Attract social capital to our cause.
